  • DVD5 - 4.7 GB (Single Layer Single Side)
  • DVD9 - 8.5 GB (Dual Layer Single Side)
  • DVD10 - 9.4 GB (Single Layer Double Side)
  • DVD18 - 17.0 GB (Dual Layer Double Side)

    Therefore, a DVD disc can store from 4.7 GB (single layer single side) up to 17.0 GB (dual layer dual side). As a good reference, the new technology allows each layer of data on a DVD disc hold up to 2 hours of full motion MPEG-2 video.

    Premastering for DLT (Digital Linear Tape) output is $150. A DLT can hold up to 20GB information. Therefore, it is the single guaranteed master for DVD-9. DVD for Authoring is also accepted for DVD-5 manufacturing. Other media form like DVD-R for General is accepted but needed to be pre-qualified at factory.

    Maison provides DVD duplication of DVD-R General (4.7GB) for full size DVD now. There are two types of recordable DVD. They are DVD-R and DVD+R. There is no difference of playback compatibility between these two. In general, DVD-R is more affordable, therefore, intended for eventual mass distribution to industrial and consumer users. A 4.7 GB disc can be fully written in approximately one hour.
